Speaking about his adventure of starting television, Erarslan explained the process he went through about his profession as follows:
“Everyone’s path is different and does not pass through the same place, but let me tell you about myself. I graduated from the Faculty of Communication, Radio and Television. I was working at the school’s agency and newspaper. Uğur Dündar’s team came and a few of us participated in the interview and we were selected. I worked with Uğur Dündar for a year. I worked in TV programmes, I finally decided on drama and I realised that it was my favourite place. My first step was working as an interpreter (I was singing the lines of the actors) in Hüseyin Karakaş’s film Geçmişin İzleri (Traces of the Past) in Cyprus. As I worked in different jobs
, I gained experience and gradually rose up the ranks. I worked as a first assistant, assistant director and finally as a director.”
Upon the question of the students about the right project criteria, Erarslan stated that when he read the project, the scenes came alive in his eyes and said the following:
“It doesn’t happen in every project, and I don’t think it should be in every project. After all, we are professionals and we should also be able to film works that we are not so excited about. I could not have predicted that Yaprak Dökümü would be so successful and last for 4.5 years, I just wanted to shoot a project I loved.”
Erarslan underlined that they chose actors in accordance with the characters and that it is very important for the actors to work in harmony, and stated that the sector is no longer dominated by men and that many women are actively working in different fields.
